Do I have to be a Registered Republican to Vote for James?

Yes and No.  In the Primary (July 27, 2010) you must be a registered Republican to vote for James.   In the General election (November 2, 2010) you can be a Republican, Independent or Democrat and vote for James.  But, to vote for James in November, we must win in July!  If you are not registered as a Republican, you need to change your registration by May 31 to make sure you are eligible to vote in the Primary, July 27 or the Runoff August 24.  To change your party affiliation, click here.

Primary in person voting is July 27, 2010.
If there is a Runoff Election it will be August 24, 2010.
General Election is November 2, 2010.

What is a “Primary?”

A Primary election is when the field of candidates narrows from many to two.  It is essential you educate yourself in the issues and candidates and vote in the July 27th primary election.  Candidates that do not win the primary election are not eligible to be on the ballot in November.  If a candidate does not receive 50% + 1 of the vote in the primary July 27, the top two candidates will participate in a runoff election August 24, 2010 to determine who will be on the ballot in November.

I would like to donate to the Campaign, what are the rules?

The FEC has many rules for donating to a federal campaign.  Basically, you must be an individual, not a corporation, union, or company.  You must be an American citizen.  No person can give more than $2,400.00 per election.  A husband and wife can each give $2,400.00, but one person cannot give more than that amount per election.  (In the FEC rules, the primary is one election, the runoff is another election and the general is another election.)

If I want to mail a donation to the campaign where does it go?

Thank you for investing in the campaign.  Checks should be made out to: “Families for James Lankford.”  You can mail your check to: Families for James Lankford, PO Box 721789 / Oklahoma City / OK / 73172-1789.  If you mail a check to our office, we will send you an information card to complete to fulfill all FEC rules for federal elections

How long is a term for the U.S. House?

Two years.  It is the shortest term in our Federal Government.  The founders of Federal government wanted to make sure the U.S. House members stayed in touch with the people of their district.  How wonderful would it be if someone went to the U.S House who was more concerned about serving the 5th district than winning their next election?

What are the qualifications for the U.S. House?

Amazingly enough, there are very few qualifications outlined in the Constitution.  House members must be at least 25 years old, be a U.S. Citizen and be a current resident of the state they will represent.
