States’ Rights

Good government is local government.

We have a federal system of government, not a national system of government. The federal government should handle issues that relate to multiple states, international agreements, border security, and national security; everything else should be left to the discretion of the individual states. It is time to put someone in Washington, DC, who thinks good government is local government. The states created the federal government; the federal government did not create the states.

The framers of our Constitution designed our government to move slowly and deliberately. We have independent states that debate issues, we have three branches of federal government that debate issues, and individual families debate issues. In this day of rapid change, businesses, families, and state and local governments all depend on a consistent and efficient federal government. The current leadership in Washington, DC, wants to change our federal system of government and replace it with a fast-moving national government that instructs the states instead of serving the states. That is not a change Americans recognize or can believe in.

Personal responsibility and state leadership are the cornerstones of our republic. Each state should reflect its culture and contribute to the unique diversity of our nation. Oklahoma is not like Michigan, New York, California, or Nevada. We are Oklahomans, and we should be able to pass laws and live as Oklahomans.

There will be no stronger advocate than James Lankford for 10th Amendment state’s rights in Congress.
