Why Run for Congress?

The Constitution matters. This is a nation of laws, not leaders. Leaders do not live forever, the law should. We must get back to our foundation; not our personal preferences.

Spending is out of control, way out of control. We must stop recklessly spending our children’s money. Our grandparents would have never spent their children’s or grandchildren’s money to make themselves happy.

We are a country drifting farther and farther away from our moral core.

The way we tax matters and how much we tax matters. Families and businesses are struggling under our tax burden and our tax code.

The federal government should not control or own and operate banks, car companies, insurance companies and energy companies.  The United States has 25% of the world’s economy because of free enterprise, not central control.

Our family farms are fighting for survival.  Our national leadership continues to “bash” big corporations, while giving every advantage to corporate farms over family farms.

No one in Washington D.C. seems to understand the difference between the government working for the people and the people working for the government. I want to change this. I do not think the issues in Washington D.C. can be solved by sending another life-long politician. We need a new voice.

Ultimately, after months of prayer, I believe this is what I must do.

Why am I running?

I am not that different than so many other Americans.  I love God.  I love my family.  I love my state.  I love my country.  I work hard and serve people.  I am embarrassed to ask anyone for anything but I am willing to help anyone who asks for anything.  For the last fifteen years I have served the families of Oklahoma as the Director of the Falls Creek summer youth camp.  Each summer I host over 51,000 people, work long hours with a staff of 150 people and manage a huge budget.  I have not spent years developing networks to help me get elected to the “next” seat, I have spent years organizing, working and serving Oklahoma families.

But now I am overwhelmed by the direction of our nation and I cannot keep waiting for someone else to do what needs to be done.  In the past, we have sent career politicians to Washington D.C., now I believe we need to send people who have real lives and real passions.  Many of them are great people and have served us well, but this is a unique season in the history of our country.  Now is not the time to send someone looking for their “next office,” now is the time to send someone looking to serve and fight for our Constitution and our families.

Our Constitution defines the foundation of the law of our country and when there is an issue, we go back to the foundation, the Constitution.  At least we used to go back.  Now, all three branches of government work in collusion instead of check and balance.  The Federal government grabs every authority it can and reserves little to the states and even less to the family. This is the greatest country in the world, but she became great because of freedom, not federal control.

Oklahomans are neighbors, friends, churches and communities.  We know our state and our people.  Our Federal system of government is designed to allow those closest to the issue to deal with the issues.  Families, communities and states know how to best take care of the needs of families, communities and their state, not someone over a thousand miles away who has never been to Oklahoma.

Issues of faith are important to me.  This journey started for me after many hours of prayer.  This race is not about power or position.  It is a passion for our country and the freedom to worship and live our faith.  I would be overjoyed to see every Oklahoman know the joy of following Jesus Christ like my family.  But, government is not the church and the church should not be the government.  America has never been a country of one faith, but the Christian principles that founded our great country allow for the free exercise of any faith without government intrusion.  Hundreds of years ago, Christians fled to America to establish a place of freedom of worship.  God forbid we would become a country embarrassed of our Christian heritage or intolerant of the different faiths of our neighbors and families.

I would like to have your vote and I would love to have your help.  Would you pray for me and others like me all over the country running this year to re-direct our national government back to limited government?  Would you help volunteer or donate to the campaign?  Every year in Oklahoma we talk about sending someone to Washington D.C. who is not a career politician.  This year, let’s do it.
