Anything beginning with the word illegal should not be as tough as we have made it. Illegal means illegal, period. The federal government has the responsibility to protect our borders and enforce immigration policies that benefit the citizens of the United States. Secure the borders first and enforce existing immigration laws. We must stop illegal crossings at every border and we must stop turning a blind eye to illegal alien employment. \ One of the primary responsibilities of the federal government is to protect the citizens of the United States. There should be NO amnesty for illegal immigrants. Justice demands that we do not give preferential treatment to someone who broke our laws over someone who has been waiting to legally immigrate to the United States. We should be a nation of legal immigrants and native-born Americans. We must also clarify the 14th Amendment to confirm that the children of illegal aliens are not given automatic citizenship.
Illegal immigration is both a compassion issue and an economic issue. If there are seasonal jobs American citizens are not taking on, there should be a legal way for people from other countries to fulfill those job needs in the short term, at a wage consistent with that earned by American workers. Illegal aliens cannot be treated like slaves in our country because they came here illegally. But we should not provide illegal aliens free health care and in-state tuition rates for college education; that only creates an incentive to come to the U.S. illegally. We cannot bail out every inefficient government in the world by taking on their economic refugees.
In short, the United States has a responsibility to enforce border security. Arizona and other border states should not be compelled to do the work of the federal government, but they have the right to protect themselves when the federal government fails to fulfill its responsibility. It is time to send leaders to Washington who will fulfill their responsibility.

This is my first time here and this post was indeed thought provoking. I find there is a gap between the no. of readers and the comments . I personally think that even though I ask questions not many come fwd to answer. And believe you me, my questions are not ‘Big Bang theory’ types.
“We cannot bail out every inefficient government in the world by taking on their economic refugees.”
-James Lankford
“When an alien resides with you in your land, you shall not oppress the alien. The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.”
-God.
Thank you , you are right! Something must be done about uninvited nonworking aliens not to mention terrorist coming over our border. Some have the argument that there are jobs that Americans won’t do that aliens will. Most of these picking and farm jobs can be handled by Americans if given the economic incentive and machinery. The aliens are cutting down on American inventivness to create solutions to labor problems.
Hi James –
When you are elected…
Please, please, please try to do something about the ridiculous state of LEGAL immigration.
My wife and I are YEARS and THOUSANDS of dollars into her immigration with no end in site.
May God bless you, your family and your candidacy,
– Steven Hess
I wanted to address the “Disenchanted Republican’s” statement. I don’t believe James would turn any of the kids attending Falls Creek away because of where they are from or who their parents are. The case of illegal immigration is not one of love and acceptance on the part of the government.
We as individuals have a spiritual responsibility to be loving and accepting of people and treat them as fellow children of God, but the United States Government has a responsibility to protect our nation’s security and economy. If you would like to help these people in the way that you have stated, there is probably no better resource than Mr. Lankford to advise you in creating a mission whereby you can witness to them in their home country.
We can not, however, allow thousands of people to rush into our country every day who do not pay their share of taxes to support government services or who are entering with the intent to harm or kill American citizents. Remember, Jesus himself was quetioned on the issue of law versus love and settled that issue two thousand years ago….
“Give unto Ceaser what is Caeser’s, and give unto God what is God’s” Matthew 22:21
There are many, many illegal aliens here in our country that have been here for years. They are productive in that they take jobs that many Americans will not. They have income tax deductions taken from their paychecks. Many have children born here who are US Citizens.
If they can prove they have lived here for years, and worked here for years, they should be given the right to apply for legal status without fear. If they have children born here, they should not be afraid to apply for legal status.
There are human rights issues here that are being ignored by politicians. As a Republican, I strongly oppose the Arizona Immigration Law that Mr. Lankford’s opponent strongly supports. What most US citizen’s do not realize is that things are far worse in Mexico than what is being reported on National news. And it is not all about the Mexican economy. It is not all about what is happening in the border towns. It is about what all is happening all over the country that you do not hear about.
We, as Americans, need to use our compassion more to help those illegals who deserve the help, and identify and ship out the riff-raff. We need a politician that will take a strong look at the overall situation, who is not afraid to go out into the community and speak with the different organizations that work with illegals every day. Find out what they are about. Before you make rash decisions about illegal aliens, I challenge you, Mr. Lankford to do this. Your opponent certainly won’t!
A few weeks ago we were backing out of the driveway and our right fender came into contact with the bumper of a pickup that was stopped on the wrong side of the street over three feet from the curb. The police came out and gave a verbal warning to my husband and the other driver. Him for not paying attention to his backing and her for driving on the wrong side of the street. He also gave her a written ticket for no drivers license. He wrote up in his report that both parties were equally at fault. Not listen to this, she was a twenty year old illegal alien with no drivers license and our insurance (Farmers) has decided to pay for both vehicle repairs even thought the police stated both parties were equally at fault. She didn’t have any business driving a car here and she was in this country illegally. Something is wrong with this picture.
Some people are of the opinion that it’s fine if our neighbors to the south make only about five dollars per day, because it costs so much less to live in their countries. This is not true. Some things cost even more. They work two 8 hour-a-day jobs to earn 10.00, and a pair of school shoes for a child costs 30.00
They only want to provide for their families, and immigrating legally is pretty much impossible.(See “The Oklahoman” interview with Michael Brooks Jimenez, July 18, 2010).
I agree that it should be harder to get into the country illegally, but it should also be easier for otherwise honest, hardworking people to get in legally.
Another thing to consider: Many of these people are our brothers and sisters in Christ.
I think the disenfranchised republican brings up a good point. James you talk and use your Christian faith for premises in other issues, but for some reason you dismiss that fact with this issue.
The latter half of your statements on efficiency are welcomed. However you forget to ask the question of what brings immigrants to America? Why is it that most immigrants work outside doing field work of some sort? Could it be that they were farmers. What caused them to stop farming and come to America? Could the immigration issue be connected to our foreign policy more specifically the free trade agreement that enables America’s subsidized farms to flood indigenous third world agrarian markets. If you want to limit the immigrants coming to America to avoid extreme poverty, then we(America) can’t exploit their local area and make them extremely poor and expect them to stay in that condition.
James if you can approach the problems behind the issues, then I will support you.
